The Port Authority of Cartagena maintains its commitment to the port development but respecting the environment. Our main objective is to include environmental consderations in all of the Planning, Operation and Management processes that are carried out in the Port of Cartagena. Since September 2004, the Port Authority of Cartagena has established an Environmental Management Scheme, certified by Lloy\'s Register Quality Assurance and presented to the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia on July 17, 2007, whereby we expect to provide society clear and precise information of all the port activities, their environmental impact and the actions undertaken to make the port development compatible with the environment. On August 22, 2008, the General Management of Environmental Quality of the Ministry of Sustainable Development of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, made public the Resolution whereby the participation of the Port Authority of Cartagena in the Community Eco-management and Audit Scheme is approved (EU Regulation 761/2001 EMAS). This resolution was published in the Official Bulletin of the Region of Murcia no. 239 of October 14, 2008. EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) is a voluntary scheme of environmental management and audit established by the EU as the maximum element of management, transparency and public participation in the environmental management of companies, aimed at reaching a continuous improvement of the environmental performance. With our participation in the EU Regulation 761/2001 (EMAS) we move one step forwards towards port activity sustainability, including the public Environmental Statement as a new information and dialogue tool, which allows all interested parties and society in general, to know at first hand, all of the information regarding the environmental performance of the company.
